Monica

Monica Chirife was born in Rosario, Argentina, on July 27^th, 1950, but she spent her childhood in country town of Alcorta.
When she was seven years old she got ill by poliomyelitis, which turned her a quadriparesic, as she suffers of a severe afection in the mobility of her limbs.
Monica graduated in English language and worked as a teacher for long time. She has devoted also to paintings and in 1981 she was the producer and one of the main characters for the documentary film "Aboard a Wheelchair", directed by Mario Piazza, to whom she got married in 1986.
After two traumatic failures, on January 26^th 1990 Monica obtained her greatest achievement: the birth of her daughter Maria Victoria. As an inscrutable sign, that day there was a Sun eclipse on Earth.

It was upon the birth of her baby girl that Monica started the making, along with Mario, of a documentary to show the struggle and the achievements of women in similar conditions as her. The images of this documentary will be part of a larger project, the feature-length documentary "Mothers on Wheels", by Mario Piazza. 

In spite of the severe difficulties that her disability imply, added to those of a country that doesn't still succeeed to find its own way to its destiny, Monica and Mario are planning this productions to tell people about the passion of women who has had the courage enough to defy a great adversity towards maternity in an act of love and self realization.

Since 2003, "Mothers on Wheels" is co-produced by Productora Cine Ojo, from Buenos Aires.
